Dancing with the Stars sixth season will start without pro dancer
Maksim Chmerkovskiy. However it’s not true that the hot dancer — who brought his celebrity partners Laila Ali and Mel B. to the finals in two consecutive seasons — is quitting the show. He just needs break. “He is part of the Dancing family, and he will be back,” says his rep.
Apparently the show’s difficult schedule had left him feeling burnt out. “After coming down from two seasons back-to-back, 10 weeks each season — 14 weeks, if you count all of the rehearsals — it puts a lot of pressure on a person and it takes its toll,” the dancer said.
However, fans will get their Chmerkovskiy fix: he will be in special group-choreographed dances.

Rumors are going around that Paula Abdul wants to join Dancing with the Stars.
It’s weird. She’s a judge on the # 1 show, and a contestant on the # 2 show? But Louis van Amstel says Abdul “loves DWTS” and wants to be part of it.
DWTS exec Conrad Green says “it’s a great story” but is skeptical it could ever happen. “I would imagine that Fox might have something to say about it.” However, there’s nothing in her contract that would stop her.
The big question is whether Paula Abdul’s choreography experience and obvious dancing skills would give her an unfair advantage. . “The only thing we’ve ever said that really excludes people is if they have had professional ballroom or Latin training,” says Green. “. “But I do think the other contestants would probably find it unfair if Paula Abdul came on. That would be like having Michael Jackson saying that he wanted to dance on our show.”

The Nielsen Media Research announced the Top 10 TV shows of 2007.
Leading the pack is the Fox show American Idol, which got a stunning 17.3 rating. It’s the second year in the row for Simon and company, who — despite a really bad selection of contestants — still got the audience hooked. However the numbers are slipping, and if the new season brings another batch of losers, who knows if it’ll still keep the attention of a disgruntled and more discriminating audience.
Another reality shows secured the next top spots: Dancing with the Stars, which got only slightly higher ratings than NBC’s Sunday Night Football. CSI, one of CBS’ best shows, still got in the top 10, but slipped from number 4 to number 7; CSI Miami slipped from number 7 to number 10.
Some new shows got into the Top !0, like Grey’s Anatomy and Samantha Who? House, another Fox hit, made it to the list.
Specials like the Academy Awards and the Superbowl were also part of the top 10 most-watched shows of the year.

And the DWTS award goes to…
Helio Castroneves and Julianne Hough (who, with Cheryl Burke, becomes the second pro partner to be back-to-back champions).
It was a well-deserved title, after facing tight competition. So glad that Marie Osmond didn’t get it — yes, we know people love her, but after that surreal freestyle number, we all know she’s better off designing dolls than dressing up like one.
Hope the next season is just as exciting as this one — but with better costumes.

Is it just us, but don’t you think the Dancing with the Stars finale fell way, way below expectations? It was such an exciting season with arguably one of the best collection of talent, but suddenly everyone just lost their mojo — not to mention their fashion taste. Marie Osmond’s costume looked like it was designed by Charlie Brown; her second outfit (a baby doll dress) was as weird as the odd, jerky movements she’d incorporated in the choreography (”It’s Baby Jane meets the bride of Chucky,” said Tonioli.) Melanie Brown was blah, and Juliane and Helio’s footwork was lousy. (The gold jumpsuit also made him look like a Brazilian Power Ranger, observed Tom Bergeron.)
What happened???

The show must go on. Despite grieving for her father’s death, Marie Osmond has promised to continue her quest for the “Dancing with Stars” title.
She and the rest of the Osmond clan will also appear on Oprah this Friday, for one of the biggest family reunions (100, and counting!) She and brother Donny will sing the theme from “The Donny and Marie” show, and they will both perform solo numbers — all in tribute to their father.
Qiuite a send-off for the Osmond patriarch, who passed away peacefully at the age of 90, days after Marie dedicated one of her dance numbers to him.
Welcome to the new Erati!!
