Disney is making plans to expand its morning “Playhouse Disney” lineup into a full-time channel targeted at 2-7 year olds. Disney Junior will feature programming that includes existing Playhouse Disney properties Mickey Mouse Clubhouse, Handy Manny, Jungle Junction, and Special Agent Oso, as well as brand new titles like Jake and the Never Land Pirates. Disney Junior will also showcase classic Disney films such as The Little Mermaid.
To make room for Disney Junior, the mouse house is shutting down SOAPnet, its 24-hour network dedicated to soap opera reruns. Created in 2000, SOAPnet was intended as a means to allow viewers to watch their favorite soaps at different times of the day — before DVRs made that same thing super-easy. Ten years later, Disney has found SOAPnet to be redundant.
For all intents and purposes, SOAPnet is being transformed into Disney Junior, as the new channel will use SOAPnet’s existing distribution to over 75 million homes.
Disney Junior will launch in 2012.
Disney has confirmed last Firday that “Hannah Montana” will be airing its last season on 2011. Whether this is Miley’s call or purely Disney’s decision is still open to speculation.
What we do know though is that coinciding with Hannah Montana’s soul searching phase (this season’s finale is said to be titled “Is Miley Saying Goodbye?”), Miley Cyrus is also openly saying that she is personally trying to figure out who she really is. In an article by Jocelyn Vena of MTV Miley said that she wants to do edgier movies as well as record a new album. According to Miley, “I’m doing a record now that’s another pop record, and then I want to come out with an album that’s really who I am. I don’t know exactly who that is yet.”
All I can say about this is that anyone who has anything bad to say about anyone’s efforts to try to figure things out it stupid. So more power to Miley on that.
However, with the track record of Disney’s past big stars and the recent sensationalized tidbits on Miley that has been circulating the past year I can only hope for her that the “Miley Cyrus” that she ends up wanting to be is worth becoming a real model for her present fans. I guess someone should tell her that it really isn’t finding out who you are but striving to be who you want be.
As for “Hannah Montana” her future is a lot more certain. Whether she ends up choosing her rockstar persona or just being Miley, we can be sure that Disney’ll maintain her squeaky clean character.

Watch out, Jonas Brothers! David Archuleta is going into acting too. He’ll be making an appearance at the Nickelodeon show, ICarly.

The Jonas Brothers may have millions of fans, but the Disney stars say in this interview that there’s really only one woman who matters to them: their mom.
“We’re doing all of this for her,” they say. Aaaaw.

The Jonas Brothers — who sent millions of adoring tween girls screaming with their movie Camp Rock — will be releasing a new TV series. The show will mimic their own lives, being about the pressure of fame, and the struggle to stay normal when even taking out the trash bears the risk of being mobbed by fans.

Oh my gosh — is it true that Miley Cyrus leaving Hannah Montana? All Disney execs and even Cyrus herself have said they’re pushing through with this season, but we kind of get the feeling that they’re gearing us for some change.

After the wildly successful High School Musical series, Disney Channel launches another TV movie that’s bound to have girls screaming (and dancing). The Jonas Brothers’ movie “Camp Rock” will air on Friday at 8 pm.

Miley’s photo scandal has the town talking, but the Disney Channel stands by its Hannah Montana star and says she will continue to be the host of the 2008 Disney Channel Games.
“Being the most famous 15-year-old in the world is exciting but fraught with challenges and exceptional responsibility,” Gary Marsh, Disney Channel entertainment president, told the Los Angeles Times about their biggest star before the photo flap.

The Kids’ Choice Awards named Miley Cyrus the fans’ Favorite TV actress and SInger — and did her the great favor of sparing her from being bathed in a bucket of green slime.
Unfortunately, Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull star Harrison Ford took the bullet — or rather, the bucket. He takes comfort from being in good, if slightly “greenish” company: Justin Timberlake, Nicole Kidman, Pink and Johnny Depp.
Green was the theme of the night. Host Jack Black had several green outfits; favorite Movie Actress Jessica Alba wore a green gown.
Cameron Diaz got back-to-back awards two years running — last year, she took home “Big Burp Award” and this year, she got the “Wanna Be Award.”
“Oh wow. And when I say wow, I mean, Wow!” she said. “This is the biggest honor in my entire life.”
Welcome to the new Erati!!
